Overview
Gasoline Girls is a proposed exhibition exploring the experiences of women within car culture—a scene historically defined by masculinity. The concept is informed by sociological research on “girl racers,” which examines how women navigate male‑dominated automotive subcultures while negotiating expectations of authenticity, femininity, and belonging.
Imagined as an underground car meet, the exhibition centers vehicles built and driven by women, creating space for visibility and community within the scene. The catalogue presents a complete summary of the supporting study alongside original photography documenting local women and their modified vehicles from the surrounding area. Through publication design and image‑making, the project highlights women not as peripheral figures in car culture, but as active participants shaping it.
